Something strange is happening with this Android 13 rollout.

Yesterday, Google officially rolled out the stable version of Android 13. This was a fast rollout — over 60 days faster than last year’s rollout of Android 12.

However, it appears the rollout itself is making its way to Pixel phones quite slowly. Here at Android Authority, we have access to 11 Pixel phones in various parts of the world. Some of those phones have the latest version of the operating system and some don’t. In some cases, there are very weird things at play.

But first, you tell us: do you have Android 13 on your own Pixel? Hit up the poll:

Android 13 rollout: Some get it, some don’t

As mentioned, we have 11 Google Pixel phones amongst our staff. Here is our status as of this moment:

  • Android 13 success via OTA, coming from a beta
    • Three phones: Pixel 5, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro
  • Android 13 success via OTA, coming from stable
    • Two phones: Pixel 5 and Pixel 6 Pro
  • Android 13 success via manual update
    • One phone: Pixel 6
  • Android 13 failure
    • Five phones: Pixel 6 Pro x 3, Pixel 5a, and Pixel 6a

So six phones successfully updated while five are still stuck on Android 12. Do note that since one of the phones updated manually, we don’t know if it would have received the OTA notification or not.

Also, note that the bulk of the success stories are phones coming from an earlier beta release. It’s possible beta users have a better chance of getting the update notification.

The weirdest thing, however, is one of our Pixel 6 Pro phones. It did receive an OTA notification yesterday, but the update was for Android 12, despite the phone already being on Android 12. We went through the update anyway, and, sure enough, we ended up staying on Android 12. When we went in to check for another update, we failed to receive Android 13.

It looks like this rollout is a bit botched. Let us know your experience in the poll above, and be sure to hit the comments to tell your story!
