The original Pixel and Pixel XL are no longer available on the Google Store
- Google officially dropped the Pixel and Pixel XL from the Google Store.
- Both devices were the first from Google’s Pixel team and have been succeeded by the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
- According to rumors, Google might be planning to launch a mid-range Pixel device.
Even when Google announced the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the company continued to sell the Pixel and Pixel XL alongside the newer phones. That did not last for very long, however, as Google took down its 2016 flagship smartphones from the Google Store.
We understand that every device has an expiration date, and the Pixel and Pixel XL’s is around the corner. Both phones received their Android Oreo updates and will get Android P, the phones’ last major Android update, later this year.
Then again, the Pixel and Pixel XL are still relevant today. The 2016 flagships will receive security updates through the end of 2019 and have strong custom ROM communities.
Both phones are also still sold through Verizon, as well as eBay and third-party Amazon sellers.
Regardless of where you pick up the phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL still hold up well today. Either phone features a 12.3MP primary camera, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and either 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of non-expandable storage.
The Pixel and Pixel XL also feature 1080p and Quad HD resolution displays, respectively. They stick to the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, but they are plenty sharp for general usage and video consumption.
As plain as the phones appear, the Pixel and Pixel XL won folks over with Google’s software optimizations and impressive camera performance. It is a shame to see two phones that still hold up well today get pulled from the Google Store.
