Pixel 9 owners can finally enjoy the full-fat Pixel Journal experience

- Pixel Journal users on Pixel 9 devices will gain onboard AI features for the first time.
- These features were initially limited to the Pixel 10 line.
- These AI-powered features include Revisit Topics, Mood ID, and reflections.
Pixel Journal was one of the software gems in the crown when it launched alongside the Pixel 10 series. The diary app included nifty AI-fueled features that helped users record their thoughts and memories. While it could be installed on other Pixel devices, like the Pixel 9, these users weren’t privy to all the fancy features. However, this changes with the March 2026 Pixel Drop.
Google has announced that Journal app users on the Pixel 9 series will finally get a taste of the app’s generative AI smarts, including reflections, Revisit Topics, and Mood ID.

Reflections are “designed to inspire and help you explore your thoughts and feelings,” as Google describes in its launch post for Journal. Revisit Topics allows the app to recommend topics based on prior entries, while Mood ID automatically selects an emoji that best captures the tones and feelings conveyed in the entry. This allows users to chart their mood trends over time.
Notably, the Journal app is fully functional without its generative AI smarts — I’ve installed and used it on my Samsung — but these certainly add a different, more personal dimension to diary writing.
The app continues to officially support Pixel 8 devices and newer, but the onboard AI smarts remain limited to Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 devices only.
