OnePlus job opening suggests T-Mobile exclusive won't last

The job posting suggests you'll be able to go into other carrier stores in the U.S. for a OnePlus device.

Last year, OnePlus revealed that T-Mobile would be the exclusive United States carrier for the OnePlus 6T. This was big news because, up until that point, no carrier had ever sold a OnePlus device before in the U.S.

Now, a few job postings at OnePlus.com strongly suggest that OnePlus is looking for the three other major U.S. carriers to join the family.

There are three postings for a job titled Senior Technical Account Manager, one for each of the big carriers: Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. The job description says that a major focus for the future employees will be to “serve as the primary contact person for carrier-related product engineering and realization groups.” The description also says that the right candidates will need to “obtain and address the latest carrier requirements and technology compliance to internal development teams.”

The job postings make it pretty clear that OnePlus is looking for someone to head up a partnership between the company and the other three big carriers to ensure that OnePlus smartphones can be sold through their retail outlets.

We reached out to OnePlus for a statement on this but didn’t hear back before press time.

Since these job postings are still up, we can only assume that the positions haven’t been filled. That means it is highly unlikely that the OnePlus 7 — which we expect to launch at some point in May — will be available on AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint. It’s much more likely that the OnePlus 7T, which we expect to arrive in the fourth quarter of the year, could be the focus of these future deals.

What do you think? Would you be more apt to buy a OnePlus device if you could get it from a carrier that isn’t T-Mobile? Let us know in the comments.
