TL;DR
  • The OnePlus 10 Pro cracked in half during YouTuber Zack Nelson’s durability test.
  • The battery placement of the phone could be responsible for its structural failure.

It’s just the beginning of 2022 and one of the first flagship phones of the year — the OnePlus 10 Pro — is not showing much promise when it comes to durability.

Popular YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything put the device through its paces in his durability test. Lo and behold! The OnePlus 10 Pro almost snapped in half during the bend test.

As soon as Nelson pushes the glass back of the phone in to test its structural integrity, it cracks with a horrible sound you don’t ever want your phone to make. Multiple cracks appear all over the frosted back of the phone, and we can see the aluminum frame open up on the sides. At this stage, the phone is still alive, though.

The catastrophic break happens when the phone is pushed in from the other side. It nearly snaps in half, rendering it absolutely useless.

On closer inspection, Nelson finds that the sizeable dual-cell 5,000mAh battery of the OnePlus 10 Pro runs length-wise across the phone. Since the device cracked right above the battery, its placement may have contributed to the structural failure.

It’s certainly not a good look for the OnePlus 10 Pro, which hasn’t yet made its global debut. If Nelson could crack it in half with just his bare hands, the chances of the phone breaking in your back pocket seem pretty high.
