Nothing Another 1 oh so boring
Nothing
TL;DR
  • Nothing mocks the design choices of current Android phones with an April Fool’s Day joke.
  • It promises that the Nothing Phone 1 will be “unlike anything else.”

Yesterday during the launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro, Carl Pei’s Nothing teased a smartphone reveal slated for April 1. Sure enough, it was an April Fool’s prank, and thank goodness we didn’t fall for it.

Anyhow, Nothing took to Twitter to reveal a generic smartphone with an edge-to-edge display and an ordinary design. It essentially mocked monotonous smartphone designs calling them “utterly unoriginal” and “exactly the same as everything else.”

The company is certainly raising expectations for its own upcoming smartphone — the Nothing Phone 1 — launching later this summer. It’s possible that Nothing will stick to the same design language as its true wireless earbuds that have a transparent shell.

Nevertheless, if you happen to click on the link in Nothing’s April Fool’s tweet, you will be taken to its website with a Buy Now button. Tapping it will send you to another page where the company says it’s not going to follow everyone else (other Android OEMs). “That’s not who we are,” boasts Nothing.

Let’s see what the startup has in store for us after such tall claims. We really hope the phone doesn’t disappoint following this build-up.
