T-Mobile unboxes water resistant Note 7 at a water park
It’s a good thing the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is IP68 certified to resist water and protected with Corning’s latest glass cover, because a T-Mobile device specialist just unboxed the 5.7-inch smartphone while riding down a water slide. You might have seen him unboxing the Galaxy S7 under water or unveiling the LG G5 from the codriver’s seat of a rally car earlier this year. Now Des “@AskDes” Smith is back once again, this time spilling the guts of a Note 7 package all over a water slide at Washington’s Wild Waves theme park.
After littering the phone’s accessories all along one water slide, Smith offers a brief look at how the phablet’s 12 MP rear camera performs inside the dimly lit innards of another ride. And while he never shows off the phone’s Gorilla Glass 5 or the handset’s ability to plunge into five feet of water for up to half an hour, Smith stood tall from an observation deck as another ride threw a wave of water at him and the handset. He also briefly showed off a few other features like the S-Pen and Iris Scanner along the way.
Ultimately, this series of stunts was about directing consumers to T-Mobile’s preorder “presents” the company is offering on the Note 7. The self-styled “uncarrier” is offering early adopters of the Note 7 the choice of either a complimentary full year of Netflix, a 256GB microSD card, or a Samsung Gear Fit 2.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is up for preorder now at all four of the US’ major wireless carrier and it’ll release on Aug. 19. For more info about what will arrive on Aug. 19, check out our hands-on coverage of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
