TL;DR
  • Motorola has started soak testing Android 8.0 Oreo for the Moto Z2 Play in Brazil.
  • The update carries build number OPS 27.74 and weighs in at 1.1 GB.
  • The initial rollout follows a similar soak test for the Moto Z2 Force last November.

Back in November last year we saw Motorola testing the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Moto Z2 Force. Now, the US company is again looking to users in South America as it prepares to rollout the Oreo update for its mid-ranger, the Moto Z2 Play.

Word of the soak test comes from the XDA forums where a user has posted screenshots of the update. The images detail the Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade, while the build number is shown as OPS27.74. The update itself weighs in at around 1.1 GB.

With Oreo now rolling out across Verizon and T-Mobile versions of Motorola’s ostensible flagship, the Z2 Force, it’s encouraging that the OEM hasn’t forgotten about the cheaper Z2 Play.

As a refresher, the Z2 Play features a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution, Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor, 3 or 4 GB of RAM, 32 or 64 GB of on-board storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery. As part of the Z-series, the Z2 Play also enjoys support for Moto Mods.

There’s no word on a wider Oreo rollout for the Z2 Play at the moment, but judging by Z2 Force time-frame, it’s fair to expect an update around March or April.
