IFA 2022: All the big announcements from the show
IFA 2022 is being held in Berlin from September 2 to 6, allowing tech media and the public alike to get their eyes and hands on the latest and greatest tech products. Last year’s show was canceled, but 2022 has seen a full-blown running of the event.
So what was actually announced? And who were the big winners in our book? Here’s what was on offer from the major brands at IFA 2022.
What was announced at IFA 2022?
Many major brands had a presence at the event, announcing products and holding keynote addresses. Here’s a look at all the notable products announced at or around the show. We also chose the recipients of our Best of IFA 2022 Awards, and you can view these picks via the previous link.
ASUS
ASUS has been an essential player at IFA in the past, and it didn’t disappoint this year thanks to the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. The company’s first foldable laptop was shown off at CES 2022, but we finally got pricing and availability details. Expect to pay a crazy $3,499 for the device. The company also revealed the vivoWatch 5 Aero and new ExpertBook devices.

Garmin
The popular tech maker delivered new GPS watches at IFA 2022 in the form of the Venu Sq 2 and Sq 2 Music Edition. The watches bring over 25 sports modes, heart rate and SpO2 tracking, Garmin Pay, and OLED touchscreens.
Garmin’s Music Edition watch differs from the standard wearable by adding storage for downloading music from Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music. So you might want to grab this option if you want to listen to music without relying on your phone. Otherwise, expect to pay $250 or $300 for these wearables.
HONOR
HONOR used its keynote address at IFA 2022 to announce several products. We got the European launch of the HONOR 70 mid-ranger and HONOR Pad 8 budget tablet, as well as the HONOR Magicbook 14 2022. Starting with the phone, the HONOR 70 serves up features like an IMX800 50MP main camera (the first phone to use this sensor), a 50MP ultrawide shooter, and a 4,800mAh battery with 66W charging.

Meanwhile, the Magicbook 14 2022 offers a 12th generation Core i5 12500H CPU, 135W wired charging capabilities, and optional RTX graphics. The latter means you should be able to play some AAA games.
HUAWEI
HUAWEI might be subjected to sanctions, but it still had a keynote address at IFA 2022. The company used the occasion to announce several products, namely the Nova 10 and Nova 10 Pro, a refreshed Matebook X Pro, the MatePad Pro 11 tablet, and the HUAWEI Watch D.

The Nova phones in particular stand out due to a 60MP ultrawide selfie camera, while the Pro model also features an 8MP front-facing depth sensor. The wearable is also pretty interesting, bringing certified ECG functionality and blood pressure measurements.
Lenovo
PC kingpin Lenovo is a fixture at IFA, but the company chose to host a virtual Tech Life 2022 event the day before IFA opened. The PC maker showed off a second-generation Lenovo X1 Fold foldable laptop, offering thinner bezels, a much larger screen (16.3-inches versus 13.3-inches), and a 25% thinner form factor. The laptop is still expensive but it’s $1,000 cheaper than the ASUS foldable device.

Lenovo also announced a few more products, including the bulky T1 Glasses, the P11 Tab series, and the IdeaPad 5i Chromebook. The former in particular looks like AR glasses but actually gives you an external monitor so you can view content from your PC or phone.
LG
LG didn’t have a ton of big news to announce at IFA, but it had at least one cool product to show off in the LG OLED Flex. This is a bendable 42-inch OLED TV with 20 different levels of curving, a 4K resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate. There’s no word on pricing or availability just yet though.

The Korean brand also had a few other announcements, such as a mammoth 97-inch OLED TV, an NFT platform on LG TVs, and game streaming for LG TVs via Utomik and Blacknut.
Nokia
HMD launched two new budget phones and a budget tablet at IFA this year. Starting with the phones, the Nokia X30 is the superior handset on paper, but both devices pack a Snapdragon 695 5G SoC and a 50MP main camera.

The X30 also offers a 6.43-inch 90Hz OLED screen, 4,200mAh battery with 33W wired charging, IP67 water resistance, and a 13MP ultrawide rear camera. Meanwhile, the Nokia G60 brings a 120Hz LCD panel, splash resistance, a 4,500mAh battery with 20W wired charging, and 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro rear cameras.
HMD also launched the Nokia T21 tablet on the day, bringing a slightly better SoC, 4GB/64GB base model (compared to the T20’s 3GB/32GB base tier), and slightly faster wired charging.
OPPO
OPPO held a pre-IFA event where it announced a variety of products for European markets. For one, the company revealed European pricing and availability for the Reno 8 series. In saying so, the €800 price tag for the Reno 8 Pro in particular is extremely overpriced compared to rival devices.

Otherwise, OPPO also launched the €69 OPPO Band 2, the OPPO Enco X2 TWS earbuds for €199, and the €300 OPPO Pad Air. Unfortunately, OPPO-affiliated OnePlus didn’t announce any products at IFA 2022.
Samsung
Samsung is no stranger to IFA, and the company had a few announcements on tap in Berlin. For one, the firm revealed that all of its home appliances will ship with Wi-Fi and SmartThings support by the end of 2023. The company also said it’s switching all TV remotes to solar power.

Another notable Samsung announcement was the Odyssey G8. This is the Korean brand’s first OLED gaming monitor, bringing a curved display, 175Hz refresh rate, and 3,440 x 1,440 resolution. In a rather cool twist, the monitor also has built-in support for game streaming services like Xbox Game Pass. So you don’t need to connect a console or PC to get your game on.
Sony
Sony held an Xperia event the day before IFA officially opened, launching the Xperia 5 IV on the day. The new flagship packs features like a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, a 5,000mAh battery, 30W wired charging, and wireless charging. The phone is smaller than the Xperia 1 IV though, resulting in a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED screen and no variable telephoto lens.

Nevertheless, Sony’s latest phone also brings welcome extras like an IP65/68 rating, a 3.5mm port, and 4K/120fps video via all three rear cameras. Expect to pay “approximately $1,000” for the device, according to the Japanese manufacturer.
TCL
TCL had a few neat devices to show off at IFA 2022, starting with the NxtWear S. This pair of AR monitor glasses packs two 1080p micro-LED screens so you have your own private cinema experience on the go. Otherwise, the company also showed off the C935 4K TV, which is the world’s largest mini-LED TV at 98-inches.
