There has been plenty of fear-mongering and misinformation surrounding the HUAWEI trade ban. One of the biggest concerns from consumers is whether Google apps and services will run on their current HUAWEI devices.

Now, a group of 30 HUAWEI phone retailers and dealers in the Philippines have reportedly announced that they will offer refunds if HUAWEI devices sold by them can’t run Google or Facebook-owned apps down the road.

HUAWEI told Revu that it was a retailer initiative, rather than a promotion by the manufacturer itself. Still, it makes for a rather powerful statement: it assures consumers that their brand new P30 Pro or P20 Lite will either work with Google apps, or they can have their money back.

Revu adds that the promotion applies to devices bought from June 15 to August 31, 2019, although one retailer says the promotion ends on August 15. In any event, the fact that the promotion applies to phones bought in July and August is pretty significant too, and it might just help HUAWEI’s sales.

The following devices are reportedly eligible for the so-called “Two Years of Google apps” promotion:

  • HUAWEI P30 Pro
  • HUAWEI P30
  • HUAWEI P30 Lite
  • HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro
  • HUAWEI Mate 20
  • Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate 20 RS
  • HUAWEI P20 Pro
  • HUAWEI P20
  • HUAWEI P20 Lite
  • HUAWEI Nova 3
  • HUAWEI Nova 3i
  • HUAWEI Nova 2 Lite
  • HUAWEI Y Max
  • HUAWEI Y9 Prime 2019
  • HUAWEI Y9 2019
  • HUAWEI Y7 Pro 2019
  • HUAWEI Y6 Pro 2019
  • HUAWEI Y6 2018
  • HUAWEI Y5 2019
  • HUAWEI Y5 Lite 2018
  • HUAWEI M5 Lite 10
  • HUAWEI M5 Lite 8
  • HUAWEI M3 Lite 8
  • HUAWEI T5 10
  • HUAWEI T3 7

The promo doesn’t seem to apply to devices that are more than two years old though, such as the HUAWEI P10 Lite or P9 series. But these phones should theoretically run Google and Facebook-owned apps just fine, and they’re also generally approaching or have reached end-of-life status in terms of updates.
