TL;DR
  • Google TV is displaying a new fullscreen roundup highlighting six features and improvements.
  • Most of the highlighted features have been available for months, with one dating back to last year.
  • The roundup is appearing on Google TV Streamer and other Google TV devices, helping users discover features they may have missed.

Turning on your TV sometimes comes with a surprise, whether it’s a redesigned home screen or a new feature waiting to be explored. Google TV is now greeting some users with a fullscreen announcement highlighting its latest improvements. There’s just one catch: Most of these features aren’t particularly new, and some have been around for nearly a year.

As 9to5Google spotted, Google TV has started showing an October 2026 feature roundup on the Google TV Streamer and other supported devices. The screen highlights six additions, from free entertainment to new ways to enjoy your photos.

Here’s what Google wants users to check out:

  • Free movies and shows: Watch on-demand content through the Google TV Freeplay app.
  • More Freeplay channels: Access over 60 additional free channels.
  • Watchlist: Find your saved movies and shows under your profile icon.
  • Photos search: Use your voice to find specific images in Google Photos.
  • Photo Remix: Turn your pictures into drawings, anime-style images, and more with Gemini.
  • Dynamic slideshows: Display your photos in more creative ways through Google TV screensavers.

These are useful improvements, especially for anyone who hasn’t explored Google TV’s newer capabilities. However, the timing of this announcement is a little strange.

Google introduced voice-powered photo search in January, followed by dynamic slideshows in April. Free on-demand movies and shows arrived in August, along with the Freeplay channel expansion. The Watchlist shortcut is even older, dating back to a 2025 home screen redesign.

That leaves the Gemini-powered Photo Remix, still a US-only experimental feature, as the only fresh highlight in this roundup. However, even this feature was also unveiled months ago.

Still, the announcement could help users discover features they might have missed. Google has occasionally used these fullscreen summaries to highlight improvements, so this isn’t entirely new. Just don’t mistake the October label for six brand-new features arriving this month.
