TL;DR
  • Pixel Watch finally gets left-behind phone alerts, plus automatic phone lock on disconnect.
  • Google is also streamlining payments and authentication with Express Pay and trusted unlock.
  • Satellite SOS expands internationally, and Gesture control rolls back to the Pixel Watch 3.

Google’s latest Pixel feature drop is here, bringing new capabilities to supported Pixel phones, tablets, and smartwatches. For Pixel Watch users, the update focuses on tighter phone integration, faster authentication, and more streamlined everyday use, plus a few expanded safety features.

Pixe Watch Left Behind
Google

One of the biggest additions is a new set of security features. We reported earlier this year that Google was developing a left-behind alert for the Pixel Watch, and with this update, the feature is finally rolling out. Pixel Watch devices can now send left-behind phone reminders, alerting users if they move out of range of their paired device. In addition, a connected watch can automatically lock a Pixel phone the moment it disconnects, helping prevent unauthorized access. The features do, however, require a Pixel 8 or newer phone paired with a Pixel Watch 2 or newer.

The drop also brings Find Hub to the Pixel Watch so users can track down misplaced devices right from the wrist. It’s a small addition, but it’s another step toward making the watch feel more like a control center rather than a supplemental screen.

Google is also adding what it calls mobile trusted location via Watch, which makes unlocking certain features faster when your Pixel phone and watch are connected nearby. Instead of slogging through extra verification steps, you can use a quicker PIN-based check. Again, the feature is limited to certain devices, this time a Pixel 8 Pro or newer and a Pixel Watch 3 or Pixel Watch 4.

For digital payments, Google is rolling out Express Pay, which cuts out the small but tedious step of opening Google Wallet at checkout. Now, users can pay with a simple tap. It’s a minor tweak, but one that should speed up transactions to feel more like tapping a credit card rather than tapping through watch screens.

Pixel Watch Gesture Control
Google

On the same streamlining thread, the drop also rolls back one-handed gesture controls to the Pixel Watch 3. With a double pinch or wrist turn, users can answer calls, snap photos, or pause workouts without touching the screen. The feature originally landed on the Pixel Watch 4 in December.

Pixel Watch SOS
Google

As for the safety front, the March Pixel Drop expands emergency features as well. Satellite SOS, which first launched on the Pixel Watch 4 in the continental US, is now rolling out to users in Europe and Canada, and filling out the US map with Hawaii and Alaska. Exclusive to the Pixel Watch 4, the safety tool allows users to contact emergency services when cellular connectivity is unavailable, extending off-grid coverage to more regions. Finally, Google is also adding standalone earthquake alerts to Pixel Watch 2 and newer models, which will warn users of nearby seismic activity.

The update begins rolling out today, March 3, to all currently supported Pixel devices, though the most notable features require newer hardware. By tightening security, reducing friction, and expanding emergency coverage, Google is strengthening the Pixel Watch’s core experience and narrowing the gap with rivals that offer similar conveniences.
