TL;DR
  • A new leak suggests we could see the Google Pixel 5a launch on June 11, 2021.
  • This info comes from sometimes-accurate leaker Jon Prosser.
  • Prosser says he doesn’t know which Pixel phone could launch that day, but it would more than likely be the 5a.

Update: March 10, 2021 (12:15 AM ET): Jon Prosser has issued a follow-up tweet noting that his source has “confirmed and followed up” the rumored Pixel 5a launch date of June 11, 2021. Read on for more details.

Original article: March 5, 2021 (10:47 AM ET): If you are excited about the next Google Pixel phone, we have some possible info to share. According to leaker Jon Prosser, a new Pixel phone could launch on June 11, 2021.

Prosser claims not to know which Pixel phone could launch that day. However, if the date is accurate, it would almost certainly be the Google Pixel 5a. June is far too early for the launch of the Google Pixel 6, for example, and we have no info to suggest there’s another Pixel line coming in 2021.

Unfortunately, Prosser does not have a stellar track record when it comes to leaked info such as this. The only reason we are mentioning it is that his date is so specific. As an example, in the same tweet in which he claims this new Pixel launch date, he also says a new set of Pixel Buds could land in “mid-April.” It’s not very often that Prosser drops a date as specific as the one he’s suggesting for the Google Pixel 5a.

Still, the June 11 date is a bit suspect. It’s a Friday, which is not a typical day for launches of this kind. Google likes to release products earlier in the week. The Pixel 4a launched on August 3, 2020, which was a Monday. Every Pixel phone before that launched on a Tuesday. The only anomaly is the Pixel 5, which launched alongside the Pixel 4a 5G on a Thursday. So you can see how a Friday launch seems suspect.

Regardless, we should start seeing more leaks related to the Google Pixel 5a coming soon. We’ll see if this one pans out.
