Pixel HiLight will soon get these new features, but will they be enough for Pixel 11 Pro users?

Among the many features Google introduced with the Pixel 11 lineup is the Pro-exclusive Pixel HiLight. It comprises a set of LEDs around the camera flash that illuminates when there’s an incoming call from favorite contacts or a Gemini task running in the background. Although there are only five usable colors on offer right now, we’ve known pretty early on that a total of nine could be on the cards. We can now offer a glimpse at these new colors.

In the recently released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, we unearthed four new color options in the Pixel HiLight color customization menu, bringing the total number to nine.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone, since we knew about nine HiLight colors before the Pixel 11 series was even announced, though it’s good to see Google inching closer to incorporating these new options.

Here are all the HiLight colors we spotted in early August:

1. Blue
2. Cyan
3. Green
4. Orange
5. Pink
6. Purple
7. Teal
8. White
9. Yellow

Separately, we’ve also spotted code in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 suggesting that support for messages in HiLight, internally referred to as LightAnimations, is almost here.

Google said during the Pixel 11 launch that it intends to extend HiLight’s capabilities to cover messages from your favorite contacts. So those plans appear to be slowly taking shape.

It’s currently unclear whether this feature will only cover texts from Google Messages or also include other apps, like WhatsApp. While it’s hard to say when either will be live on HiLight, Pixel 11 Pro owners would hope it happens sooner rather than later, given its limited capabilities right now.
