Google Photos

Update, September 13, 2019 (12:01PM ET): In addition to same-day prints, Google yesterday also announced several other Google Photos features.

First up is Memories. Using machine learning, Memories places photos and videos from previous years at the top of your gallery. If you want to search through photos instead, you can now search by the text in your photos and screenshots.

Next up is streamlined sharing with friends and family. Any photos or videos you want to send to someone else will be added to an ongoing conversation, with shared images the same quality as they are when backed up to Google Photos.

According to Google, the conversation will be private. The feature will roll out “in the coming months.”

Finally, you can order canvas prints in addition to same-day prints. Canvas prints start at $19.99 and come in 8 x 8, 12 x 14, and 16 x 20 sizes. Even better, prints won’t be limited to CVS — in addition to the pharmacy chain, you can pick up prints at Walmart.

Original article, September 12, 2019 (12:00PM ET): Today, Google announced the ability to pick up Google Photos prints at 7,500 CVS locations the same day you order them.

Prints will be 4 x 6 inches in size and cost $0.33 each. You can change the pick-up contact to a family member or friend if you’re busy with something, though the pick-up time will vary by store. You’ll need to call CVS to determine when exactly the prints will be ready.

The announcement comes a few weeks after Flickr announced the ability to order metal, paper, and canvas prints. Prints from Flickr cost as little as $0.49, though the price can balloon to $50 for canvas prints.

Same-day pick-up for Google Photos prints is rolling out across the U.S. starting today, with a broader roll-out slated for October 2019. Based on an APK teardown, here’s how you’ll be able to place an order:

  1. Open the Google Photos app.
  2. In the sidebar, tap Print shop.
  3. Tap Photo prints, then tap Order prints.
    1. Alternatively, you can start from any horizontally-listed album.
  4. Tap Get Started, then select as many images as you’d like to print.
  5. Tap Next, then select the closest CVS location.
  6. Tap Place order when you’re ready.
