Google Photos is giving you new tools to wrangle your Collections tab
Oct 28, 2026 — 12:55 PM ET

- Google Photos has introduced new customization options for the app’s Collections tab.
- Users are now able to reorganize the tab and pin favorite options to the top of the screen.
A new update to Google Photos might make your crowded Collections tab a little easier to manage. The app’s latest update rolling out now brings with it new customization for Collections, letting users rearrange the tab and pin a selection of destinations to the top of the UI.
Once you have the update, you’ll see Favorites, Screenshots, and Trash pinned to the top of your Collections tab. There’s a plus icon to the right of those three folders and an Edit button that open a screen to swap out what you see pinned at the top, as well as a Reorder button at the bottom of the tab to rearrange the collections that show up below your pinned options.
The change is drawing mixed reactions. User W7ENK took to the Google Photos subreddit to say that the latest UI iteration is, in their opinion, “absolute garbage.” Some commenters share their sentiment, but others are pleased with the new ability to customize the UI.
You can pin a ton of different views to the top of the tab, from individual albums to photos tagged with specific locations to images in which a certain type of document was detected. The Reorder button at the bottom of the screen allows you to rearrange the strips that appear on the Collections tab, with those you hide populating a condensed section of buttons labeled Other Collections. You can also turn off the new Favorites strip entirely from the Reorder menu.
I’m seeing the updated Collections tab on my own devices now. If you don’t have it on your end yet, you should soon.
