Google One may include Play Pass in a future discounted bundle
- Google is seemingly considering melding Google One and Play Pass in a single bundle.
- This is according to information garnered from a Google One app teardown.
- It’s unclear if or when Google may launch the bundle.
Google is seemingly considering melding its Google One subscription with Play Pass in a new, discounted bundle offering.
Per an app teardown conducted by 9to5Google, Google One may soon allow users to add Play Pass to their Google One plan and gain a percentage discount on the overall price. It’s unclear how much users stand to save, but users would be able to trial the bundle before committing.
The bundle will start with the base One plan, offering 100GB and priced at $1.99 per month. If users need more storage, they can upgrade to the 200GB or much pricier 2TB bundle at a later date. More interestingly, Google suggests users can “share both Google One and Play Pass with your family group at no additional cost.” This makes the bundle an interesting prospect for a family of mobile gamers.
Google One and Play Pass
The subscription bundle would likely appeal to a select group of users. Google One launched as a cloud storage upgrade back in 2018. It now offers a few additional perks. Play Pass, meanwhile, is one of Google’s newest subscription additions giving users access to games and apps sans ads and in-app purchases. It usually costs $4.99 per month.
Notably, evidence garnered by the app teardown doesn’t confirm that this bundle is coming any time soon. It does, however, suggest that Google might consider this offering in the future.
More companies are looking to bundle deals or cheaper subscription models with leaner features. Recently, Spotify kicked off a trial of its cheaper, ad-supported Spotify Plus tier, which offers users some Premium benefits. YouTube is also trialing a Premium Lite tier, which would give subscribers an ad-free experience without the perks of Premium proper.
