Google Messages on Samsung phones could soon get a handy search upgrade

Ever since Samsung shut down its Messages app in the US, the company has basically forced users to switch to Google Messages. Whether you enjoy using Google Messages or not, you simply can’t use Samsung Messages anymore. And if you relied on the upgraded S Finder to look through your text messages, well, you were out of luck in the US. Fortunately, that could change soon. While looking through the latest beta version of the Google Messages app (v20260921), we spotted some interesting details. It seems Google is working on adding support for S Finder to search through messages in the Google Messages app.

We found code referencing this feature, and while it’s not functional yet, it’s definitely promising. It might work similarly to the Pixel Search experience on the Pixel 11 series, which also lets users search across several apps, including Google Messages.

Right now, Google Messages doesn’t show up in S Finder’s list of supported apps.

However, when (or if) Google finally releases this feature, it could let users search through text messages in the Google Messages app using S Finder on their Samsung phones. This could potentially save Samsung users a lot of time.

It’s worth noting that evidence of Google working on a new feature isn’t enough to confidently say it will be available in a future version of the Messages app. However, this development is interesting. Google and Samsung often partner closely on several features, so adding support for Google Messages to S Finder wouldn’t be entirely surprising.
