Google Docs on Android is getting a Gemini Live-like upgrade for more users
Oct 22, 2026 — 12:47 AM ET

- Google Workspace users can now use Docs Live to draft documents using natural voice commands.
- The feature can also pull context from the user’s emails, chats, and Drive files.
- It’s available in the Google Docs app on iOS and Android.
At Google I/O earlier this year, Google announced a nifty Gemini Live-like upgrade for Docs, Keep, and Gmail. The new capabilities started rolling out to users last month, and Google is finally bringing the Docs Live experience to its Workspace customers as well.
Docs Live has now started rolling out to Workspace users, the company announced in a new blog post. The feature will be available in the Google Docs app on Android and iPhone and will let users create documents hands-free by simply describing what they want to write.

It’s worth noting that Docs Live isn’t just a fancy name for voice transcription. The feature brings a Gemini Live-like experience inside Google Docs. You don’t really need to speak everything word-for-word, either. Just explain your ideas along with any important details, and Docs Live can draft the document for you.
Google also highlighted that the feature can reference information from your emails, chats, and Drive to flesh out the document with relevant and accurate context. You can also tell Docs Live what type of document you’re writing — a summary, proposal, project update, etc. — and it will format the final document accordingly.
Docs Live is now available to users on the following plans: Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro for Education, AI Expanded Access, and Google AI Pro and AI Ultra. The feature is available right now, and you can try it out in the Google Docs app on your phone.
