Google Clips
TL;DR
  • Google Clips’ new features let it better recognize hugs, kisses, and other movements.
  • You can also connect several devices to Clips simultaneously.
  • Released earlier this year, Clips uses AI to automatically capture photos and videos.

Google Clips, the device that uses AI to automatically take pictures and short video clips, got a bit better at its job with new features and enhancements.

According to Google, it made improvements to the AI model that allow Clips to better recognize hugs, kisses, jumps, and dance moves. Whether it is you dancing with your clearly disinterested dog, or your child kissing your cat and getting mauled as a result, Clips should automatically recognize and capture those precious moments.

Clips also includes an additional sharing option that lets the device connect to multiple phones. Each device can then view and share content with each other or others over the internet.

Finally, Clips automatically trims clips based on camera movement, which takes further guesswork on your part out of the equation.

All of these additions should make an already interesting camera all the more interesting. Clips’ unique selling point is that it uses artificial intelligence to shoot what it judges to be opportune moments.

In theory, all you have to do is set Clips up where you want and let it do the rest. You can even connect Clips to Google Photos to help the camera recognize faces. Once you look over what was snapped, you can then decide which moments to keep and which to delete.

The idea is to keep you in the moment, but that becomes a problem when Clips does not capture everything you consider a moment. Not only did Clips fail to capture certain moments, but you have to be mindful of where you place Clips.

Even so, we found Clips to be a fun and promising device that is available for $200 as part of Google’s Mother’s Day sale. Make sure to also download the app, which helps you retrieve videos and get the details right.
