Low light photography is one of the big pain points in smartphone cameras, and Google announced a new feature that aims to drastically improve it. Night Sight was announced alongside the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, though the feature wasn’t ready for primetime. Now it is, and it’s rolling out to all Pixel smartphones over the next couple days.

Night Sight will arrive as an update to the Google Camera app. Google says it will work best on the Pixel 3 and 3 XL because the learning-based white balancer was trained specifically for the Pixel 3, so it’ll be less accurate on the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel XL, and Pixel.

With Night Sight, Google promises well-lit shots in dim lighting conditions. We didn’t expect Google’s on-stage examples to work that well in real life, but boy were we wrong. You can check out some of our Night Sight camera samples right here, and see how it compares with the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro’s Night Mode here.

Pixel owners, be on the lookout for a Google Camera update sometime soon!
