Google has announced a new feature for Google Assistant, called assignable reminders, and it might be ideal for forgetful loved ones.

Once you send a reminder to someone via Assistant, the recipient will get a notification on their smart display and smartphone. They’ll get notified again at the exact time you asked Assistant to remind them. Assignable reminders also work for location-based reminders with a specific physical address.

As expected, you can’t just send reminders to random people. Senders and recipients must be in the same Google family group or have their Google accounts linked and voice-matched to the same smart display or speaker. Recipients must also be in your Google Contacts.

You can also block anyone from sending you reminders through the assignable reminders section in Assistant settings. This might be handy if someone is abusing the system.

Assignable reminders will be available over the next few weeks in English. The feature will roll out to phones, speakers, and smart displays in the U.S., U.K., and Australia, along with the Google Nest Hub Max when it launches this fall.
