More Gmail users can now use Gemini to skim through work emails
Oct 16, 2026 — 8:26 AM ET

- Gmail Live and AI Inbox are now rolling out to Workspace users.
- Google is also bringing the option to change Gmail Live voices directly from the chat screen.
- These features are limited to English-speaking users in the US.
At Google I/O 2026, Google demonstrated a Gemini-powered voice chat interface for its most widely used apps, including Gmail, Keep notes, and Docs. Last month, Google finally started rolling out Keep Live, Docs Live, and Gmail Live to personal account holders last month. And now, it’s expanding to a wider audience.
Google recently announced that Gmail Live is making its way to Workspace account users. Gmail Live uses a voice-based interactive medium, allowing users to ask the AI assistant to pull specific details from your emails, even combing for information through multiple email threads instead of focusing on one. All of this without you having to type a single word.
These features are rolling out to Google Workspace users using Gmail on both Android and iOS. On a dedicated support page, Google notes that the feature doesn’t work on Android tablets yet. The feature is turned on by default for all organizations that use Gemini or other AI features, but admins will be able to turn it off.
Along with rolling it out to Workspace users, Google is also enabling users to change their voice in Gmail Live. Last week, we discovered this being worked on. Google says that users will be able to change the assistant’s voices directly from the chat screen.
In addition to Gmail Live, Google is rolling out another Gemini-powered feature to Workspace users: AI Inbox. It’s quite similar to AI Overviews in Search, and offers users a summary of important emails and any events that may require urgent attention. Google started rolling it out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers around I/O 2026, along with updates that let them pull information from other Google apps, such as Calendar, or allow them to reply to email directly.
AI Inbox is available through both web and mobile interfaces of Google Workspace. However, it is only available to English-speaking users in the US for now, and we’ll share an update when Google expands it to more regions. For personal Gmail account users, both of these features are still only available if you have an active Google AI subscription.
