Gmail Live may soon gain some new voices, courtesy of Gemini
Oct 9, 2026 — 9:50 AM ET

- Gmail Live could soon add seven new voices to complement its current single option, accessible via a new three-dot menu.
- Most of the voices from Gemini Live may land in Gmail’s AI search experience, except for a couple.
- Changing voices in Gmail Live could restart the chat, which would mean you would lose the conversation.
Google recently rolled out Gmail Live, the conversational search experience in the Gmail app. It scans your emails to find what you’re looking for, like dates for future events or meetings. While it works well right now, even in beta, Gmail Live doesn’t yet let you change voices as you can with Gemini. But that could change soon.

We dug into Gmail version 2026.10.05.993506826 to activate seven new voices for Gmail Live, complementing the existing option, Orbit.
- Pegasus
- Capella
- Dipper
- Orion
- Ursa
- Vega
- Eclipse
If some of these voice names sound familiar to you, it’s because they already exist in Gemini Live, accessible via the settings page. Google isn’t bringing over all voices from Gemini, though, with Glow and Flare currently missing from the list. That said, these voice options could be added in a future update.
We’re also getting a good look at how users could change voices in Gmail Live. The current interface offers only mute/unmute and end buttons at the bottom of the screen. A future update could add a three-dot menu in the top-right corner that includes a Voice settings option. This would open a bottom sheet that displays all additional voices, with Orbit set as the default.
Users could see a warning that changing the voice would restart Gmail Live and that they would “lose any conversation so far.” All the voices worked as expected in our early testing, suggesting an official rollout may not be far away. However, it’s too early to say when.
Additionally, we have seen early evidence of voice-changing options coming to the Live experience in the Google Keep and Docs apps. However, like these new voices in Gmail Live, it’s hard to say exactly when they will be widely available.
