Catalyst Black: How to use loadouts

Lock and loadout.
By

Published onJanuary 23, 2023

Catalyst Black is a top-down arena shooter that allows you to customize the loadout for your player character. What this means is that you can customize all of the weapons, equipment, and abilities you take into every battle. Depending on your loadout, you may deal more or less damage or have more or less health in-game. You cannot change your loadout mid-match, so you best have your loadout prepped before you start your next match. Let’s go over how to use loadouts in Catalyst Black.

What is a loadout in Catalyst Black?

Catalyst Black is a multiplayer online game focused on different player-versus-player game modes. Similar to other shooters like Call of Duty, you are allowed to customize the way you play the game through a player-specific “loadout.”

To view and customize your loadout, open Catalyst Black and tap the LOADOUT button in the bottom-right of the main menu.

Everyone’s loadout is different, no matter what player avatar they’ve picked. The game allows you to choose what Heavy, Ability, Trinket, and Primary you want to use in your “Hero” form, as well as the Mask, Power, and Relic you wish to take advantage of in your “Primal” form.

Hero loadout

The Hero form loadout consists of the HeavyAbilityTrinket, and Primary slot items. These affect your play when you walk around as a human—or “Hero.” If you want more, you can obtain them through chests, which you can earn or purchase from the main menu.

The "Hero" loadout consists of the 'HEAVY,' 'ABILITY,' 'TRINKET,' and 'PRIMARY' slots.

All Hero form loadout items are tied to a “banner.” If you equip your loadout with more items of the same banner, you will receive greater in-game bonus effects. Check out our Catalyst Black banner guide for more details on that.

Primal loadout

The Primal form loadout consists of the MaskPower, and Relic slot items. These affect your play when you transform into your big beast form, also known as “evolving” or “popping your ult.” You can also attain these Mask, Power, and Relic items through chests.

The "Primal" loadout consists of the 'MASK,' 'POWER,' and 'RELIC' slots.

Unlike the Hero items, the three Primal items forming the “Primal” right side of the loadout do not have banners.

How to change your loadout in Catalyst Black

Open Catalyst Black and go to the main menu. Tap the LOADOUT button on the right side of the interface.

Within your loadout, tap the item you want to change. For example, if we wanted to change the item we had in the Heavy slot, we’d tap that item.

Your current item will appear on the left. On the right side, you will see all of the items you own for that slot. Tap on the one you want to equip.

Remember that you want to build a balanced loadout for your playstyle or purpose. This will depend on the weapon’s range, the effects of the ability and trinket, which Primal you have equipped, and, most importantly, the banners of your Hero items.
