Bose expands its open-ear lineup with two new pairs of clip-on earbuds
Sep 17, 2026 — 9:00 AM ET

- Bose has launched two new pairs of open-ear earbuds.
- These include the Bose Sport Open, with sweat resistance and a flexible design, and the Bose Ultra Open, with rich audio in a clip-on design.
- The Ultra Open also features head tracking and aptX Adaptive for an immersive sound.
Growing concerns about ear infections and noise-isolation pain have fueled the rise of open-ear earbuds. Beyond core audio brands, even phone brands, including Nothing, have hopped on the trend, while bigger ones, such as Samsung, are now exploring the format. While Bose was among the earliest mainstream players in the category, it is now expanding its open-ear lineup with two new options.
Today, Bose is launching two new pairs of earbuds for users who don’t desire in-ear earbuds. These include the Bose Sport Open Earbuds, featuring a silicone-padded clip-on design that we’re seeing on a range of new earbuds, including Sony’s LinkBud Clips. The launch also includes the second generation of its Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, with a cuff-shaped open-ear design that lets you enjoy high-quality audio without stuffing your ear canals.

The duo offers an extremely lightweight footprint, with earbuds weighing 10 grams each. Of the two, the Sport Open is marketed for active outdoor use, where you can enjoy rich and balanced sound without being cut off from the environment. These earbuds are sweat- and splash-resistant, come with an IP54 rating, and are claimed to offer up to seven hours of playback.
The Ultra (2nd Gen) earbuds, meanwhile, are claimed to offer richer sound with deeper bass. Marketing aside, we can expect significant sonic losses, especially in the bass, outdoors or in crowded surroundings. Bose, therefore, recommends these as ideal earbuds for leisurely activities, such as winding down after a long day. These are claimed to offer nine hours of playback per charge.

In addition to the similar basic functionality as the Sport Open Earbuds, the new Ultra Open Earbuds also offer spatial audio with head tracking, automatic volume adjustments, Cinema Mode, and more.
Both of the new pairs feature Bluetooth 5.4 with Multipoint connectivity, as well as support for Google Fast Pair and Find Hub. The Ultra also supports Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive for more in-depth audio.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds come in white and black colors, with electric blue or green accents.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds come in classic black and white, with metallic inserts on the outer side of the joint.

The earbuds also come in limited-edition variants, such as Olive Green, Cherry Chocolate, and Sky Pink.
Pricing
The Bose Sport Open are priced at $199, while the Bose Open Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) retain the same launch price of $299 from last generation.
Both pairs will be available for pre-order starting September 9 and will be available starting October 1.
