10 Good Lock modules I can't live without on my Samsung Galaxy phone

One UI is already one of the most feature-rich Android skins out there, so I get why Samsung doesn’t ship Good Lock modules by default. Doing that could make things unnecessarily overwhelming — more so than One UI already is.

Still, there are a few Good Lock features I genuinely think deserve to be built into One UI, because they’re just that good. And no, I don’t think you need to be a power user to appreciate them. Here are a few of my favorites.

Set screen timeout and refresh rate per app

By default, the screen timeout you set on your Galaxy phone applies everywhere, which isn’t ideal, since a 30-second timeout that works for texting can be way too short for reading a recipe. The Display Assistant module lets you set screen timeout on a per-app basis. So your PDF viewer or Chrome can stay on for a minute or two, while everything else times out to 30 seconds.

You can do this for screen refresh rate too. Instead of locking your phone to 120Hz and draining the battery, or capping it at 60Hz and losing smoothness everywhere, Display Assistant lets you specify which apps run at what refresh rate. In a way, your phone adapts to whatever you’re doing.

Give every app its own volume level

Individual app volumes in Sound Assistant is another feature that solves a problem almost everyone has. It lets you set different volume levels for every app on your phone. So, if you want YouTube Music at 90% volume but prefer YouTube videos at 60%, you can do that.

You can set different volume levels for games, streaming services, messaging apps, and pretty much anything else you use regularly. It’s a small thing, but it saves you the hassle of changing the volume every time you switch apps.

Add back tap shortcuts to your Galaxy

iPhone and Pixel users have had Back Tap for years. It basically turns the back of your phone into a button. You can double- or triple-tap the back to launch an app, capture a screenshot, open the notification shade, and even access Gemini.

Galaxy users can also enable this same feature via Good Lock’s RegiStar module. You can set these gestures to jump to specific sections within apps, like a WhatsApp chat, a Google Drive folder, Chrome’s browsing history, and even ChatGPT’s camera mode.

Declutter your status bar

Status bar icons are generally useful since they let you see things like time, signal strength, and battery level at a glance. But not every status bar icon Android shows is actually useful, at least not to everyone. I personally don’t see the point of icons like NFC, Data Saver, Location, Device Care, and VPN, since they’re always active for me anyway. If anything, they just make the status bar look cluttered.

The QuickStar module lets you hide specific status bar icons, so you get to decide what shows up and what doesn’t. On One UI 9, this module also lets you add a network speed indicator, which is great if you’re the type who loves keeping an eye on internet speeds.

Make your Galaxy’s buttons do more

Those physical buttons on your Galaxy phone can do a lot more than control volume and lock the screen. With Routines+, you can assign custom actions to long-press and double-press gestures on the volume and side keys.

This isn’t built into Routines+, but it’s something you can set up easily. All you have to do is open the Modes and Routines menu, create a routine, and choose Button action under the If section. You can set these shortcuts to open Instagram DMs, launch Chrome’s incognito mode, start a new note in Keep, or even pull up directions home. There are plenty of choices, so it really comes down to how creative you want to get.

Give your recent apps screen a makeover

Android’s recent apps screen is handy for switching apps, but those large previews aren’t always helpful. If you never clear the recents menu like me, you might have to swipe a lot just to get back to an app you used a few minutes ago.

The Home Up module fixes this by giving you a few layout options under Task Changer. You can go for a grid, vertical list, or slim list, depending on what you like. All of them let you see more apps at a glance, so switching and closing apps becomes a lot quicker.

Clean up your Galaxy’s share menu

Android’s share sheet is one of those things you probably use dozens of times a day. It does a decent job of suggesting relevant options, but Home Up’s Share Manager lets you take full control of it.

For instance, you can pin your favorite people and apps to the share menu, so they’re always within reach. It even lets you hide specific apps you never use, which is a great way to keep the share sheet nice and tidy.

Save time by editing photos in bulk

Editing photos in bulk usually requires a third-party app like Image Toolbox. Galaxy users don’t need it, though, because Good Lock’s Gallery Assistant module can already handle this. You can use it to rotate, flip, resize, and watermark up to 500 images at once. It also lets you save dozens of images as a single PDF file.

Even if you’re not big on editing images, Gallery Assistant’s reduce size tool can still be useful. You can use it to shrink hundreds of less important photos without actually deleting them. Samsung’s Gallery app is already feature-packed, but having Gallery Assistant available out of the box can make it even more useful.

Add shortcuts, widgets, and more to your lock screen

By default, One UI lets you change the clock style and add a few widgets to the lock screen, but that’s where the customization ends. Good Lock’s LockStar module unlocks a few more options here.

With it, you can add app shortcuts, emojis, stickers, and custom text to your lock screen. LockStar also lets you bring most of these to the Always-On Display. Sure, this level of customization isn’t for everyone, but I feel adding apps and widgets can give the lock screen some actual purpose beyond simply looking pretty.

Unlock the hidden 24MP camera mode

This one’s exclusive to the Galaxy S26 and Z Fold 8 lineups. Good Lock’s Camera Assistant module lets you enable a hidden 24MP mode in the Camera app. It uses AI Fusion processing to pull detail from the higher-resolution lens, then applies the same multi-frame computational photography you get with the standard 12MP mode.

So instead of choosing between 50MP or 200MP shots that take up more storage space, or dropping all the way down to 12MP and leaving detail on the table, this 24MP mode offers a nice middle ground. It keeps file sizes reasonable, and you’re not sacrificing nearly as much sharpness to get there.
