TL;DR
  • Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV are now integrated into Fire TV’s discovery interfaces.
  • Sling is already available, while Hulu and YouTube are coming soon.

Amazon is making Fire TV more of a viable option for watching live streaming TV in the living room by tightly integrating Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV.

As The Verge reports, you’ll see live material from Hulu, Sling, and YouTube in the Fire TV’s discovery interfaces, including the Live tab, Channel Guide, and On Now rows. The services have previously been available through their respective apps, but now you have quick access to specific channels if you subscribe to one of these providers.

Just when you’ll get access will vary. Sling TV started integrating with the Fire TV interface earlier in 2020. YouTube TV will be available on July 9, while Hulu’s live TV offering will come in the weeks ahead.

The additions are convenient if you frequently find yourself watching live programming, of course, but it’s also important for the services themselves. Amazon’s Fire TV devices are popular both in terms of sales and use (19% of streaming device viewing time, according to Conviva analysts). The more often a service like Hulu, Sling, or YouTube can get in front of those viewers, the better its odds of attracting and keeping viewers.
