TL;DR
  • The latest smartwatch from Chinese company Huami lasts over 30 days on a single charge.
  • Along with the usual smartwatch features like notifications, GPS, and tracking, the watch is also IP68 rated.
  • It is available in Onyx Black globally today, with three other colors available to pre-order.

Today, Chinese wearable technology company Huami (a sub-brand of Xiaomi) announced its latest smartwatch: the Amazfit Bip. The Bip joins three other Huami smart wearables available in North America, including the Pace, becoming Huami’s global “does it all” device.

The usual features of a smartwatch are on offer here, including sports tracking, GPS tracking, sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and notifications for calls, messages, and other apps. The form factor is nice, although not too innovative; it looks remarkably like an Apple Watch, complete with a small dial on the right side of the watch face.

However, unlike the Apple Watch, the Bip costs a mere $99, works seamlessly with Android phones, and has astounding battery life, purportedly lasting more than 30 days on a single charge.

Its always-on display is 1.28 inches measured diagonally, protected under Gorilla Glass 3, and is full-color. It has a 20 mm standard-width band that you can change out if you like, and it has an IP68 rating, meaning it can be underwater for 30 minutes at depths of up to five feet (1.5 meters).

The Bip comes in four colors: Onyx Black (pictured above), Cinnabar Red, White Cloud, and Kokoda Green. However, all the colors aside from Onyx Black are limited to pre-order status for now, with anticipated ship dates of March 2018.

All in all, it sounds like Huami is hoping the Amazfit Bip will be the perfect smartwatch for everyone, with its kitchen sink features, long battery life, and low price.
