What is YoWindow Free Weather?

YoWindow Free Weather is a (you guessed it) free weather application that not only provides weather information but looks good doing it. There is also a live wallpaper and static wallpaper included to help enhance the experience.

The weather app functions as you’d expect a weather app to be. It shows your current weather and the forecast and you can check out the weather website if you need more detailed information. The part that people seem to really like is the app changes its appearance based on the weather. If it’s sunny, the app will be sunny. If it’s rainy, the app will be rainy. You get the point. You can also fast forward through the day to see the spectrum of weather changes which is a really nice design touch even if it’s not really all that functional. The landscape also changes based on the season which is also a nice touch.

The live wallpaper does essentially the same thing as the app. It’ll be whatever the weather outside is so you can see what the weather is from the home screen without opening the app. There is a static version as well if the live wallpaper is too battery hungry. In either case, it’s a nice addition and saves you the effort of having to find an app that does the same thing.

It's simply gorgeous.

PROS
  • Looks really good on larger displays and full HD screens.
  • App background changes with the weather as does the dedicated live wallpaper which is a nice touch.
  • Landscape changes based on time of day and season which is also a nice touch.
  • Simplistic weather app without a lot of complicated features which is great for people who like simple.
  • Free and paid versions available.
CONS
  • Live wallpaper has been reported as a big battery drain on some devices.
  • No weather radar which is a feature a lot of people actually want.
8.0
Overall, this is a really well designed application. In this day of larger screens and full HD displays, apps like YoWindow really take advantage of all of those pixels. There is also a paid version for $0.99 if you’re interested. In any case, if you’re looking for a weather app that looks good, this is where it’s at.
