Verizon has put out the August security patch for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on launch day, so you should have your first update before you've even set it up.

It’s launch day for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which means plenty of people are going to be firing that shiny new beast up for the very first time. For those on the Verizon network, you’ll also have an update waiting for you when you first boot it up. It’s nothing too exceptional, just the August security patch from Google, but it’s still better than not having it on launch day (ahem!).

Your Note 7 should pick up the patch when it searches for updates during initial boot, but if it doesn’t you can grab it manually. Just launch Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for updates or keep an eye out for the OTA notification in the status bar not long after you fire things up.

The August security patch sorts out three of the four Quadrooter vulnerabilities, which, as unlikely as you are to be affected by, are still of concern (the fourth will be patched in the September security update). We don’t yet know if other U.S. carriers are planning a very quick push for the August security patch (or if they come pre-loaded on the Note 7 out of the box).

Let us know what security patch your Note 7 is running and what you think of it (the phone, not the patch).
