Yesterday, word broke that Samsung had finally begun to update its Galaxy A product line to last October’s Android Marshmallow 6.0. Of course, much to the dismay of many, the news came with a couple of caveats: it was only for the OG Galaxy A7 (i.e. the 2015 metal one) and only for customers living in Russia with unlocked variants. Suffice to say, there was at least one case of visible disappointment in the comments section as the logic of leaving the newer Galaxy A (2016) models out to dry hurt the eye.

Today however, things are changing as SamMobile is reporting that the Galaxy A5 (2016) is updating to Marshmallow. Of course, the same caveats once again apply: it’s only for customers in Russia, and even then only for unlocked variants.

As mentioned, Android Marshmallow (6.0) was released released to market last October. The  mushy dessert brings with it several new and useful features to Google’s mobile OS. The first is Now On Tap which will scan your current screen image for relevant information. The next, Android Doze, opts to better manage power usage during device downtime. Finally, there are granular App Permissions which give you more control over what access your apps have to your phone and files.

Please note that if the update is not pushed to your phone, it can be manually triggered by heading to Settings, About Device, and then System Updates. Note that even this process is not entirely perfect and it may ultimately take some days or weeks before your specific unit is eligible to receive the update.
