The Essential Phone is getting another update. The latest update from Andy Rubin’s new company brings the build number to NMI64C and includes the September security update. We’ve seen several updates from Essential since it started shipping phones last month, bringing camera improvements, squashed bugs, and performance improvements.

We do have to give credit where it’s due. Essential has been pumping out updates in a timely fashion so far. There’s always a fear with a newer or less established company that updates will take a backseat to other priorities. Security scares like BlueBorne show just how essential updates can be and we’re glad at least one OEM is listening.

Don't even think about repairing the Essential Phone by yourself

It’s rather impressive that Essential managed to push the September security update the same day it became available to Pixel and Nexus owners. Early reports indicate that the phone feels far more fluid when scrolling and some graphical issues have been ironed out. You can head into the Settings and manually check for your 175 MB update now.
