YouTube Premium family plan getting a 23% price increase next month
- The price of a YouTube Premium family plan subscription is going up in November.
- In the United States, it’s going from $17.99 to $22.99 each month, a jump of around 23%.
- This is happening just as Google is catching a lot of flak for its Premium advertisements.
YouTube Premium has been in the news quite a bit recently. Google has been pushing the paid service quite hard — a little too hard for some tastes. Now, right at the time when it’s under the most scrutiny, Google is raising the price.
The YouTube Premium family plan subscription is going up by 23%. On November 21, 2022, the price will jump from $17.99 to $22.99 each month. Google made this announcement directly to subscribers via an email blast today. Android Authority saw such an email.
As of now, it appears individual Premium subscriptions are not seeing this change.
In the email, Google explains the increase as being needed to “continue delivering great service and features” to the YouTube Premium family plan. Additionally, the increase will allow Google to “develop even more Premium features and continue to support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
The email also has links to cancel your membership should this increase prove to be too much for you.
The YouTube Premium family plan offers the same perks individual plan subscribers see, which include ad-free access to YouTube Music, ad-free YouTube videos, the ability to play videos even when your phone’s display is off, and much more. However, the family plan allows you to share those features with up to five other people.
