Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra piped up on Facebook this week to announce that the company’s Redmi Note 3 smartphone has passed a major milestone in India. Over 600,000 of the handsets have been sold through Mi India in just 60 days of weekly sales, a new record for the company, apparently.

The Redmi Note 3 originally launched in India back in March and has been on sale in the country since the end of April. Lately, the company has been selling the Redmi Note 3 alongside the new Mi 5 flagship through open sale as well.

The Indian version of the smartphone boasts an improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, instead of the MediaTek chip found inside last year’s Chinese release of the handset. The battery is also larger at 4,050 mAh and there’s a 16 megapixel sensor with PDAF included as well.

Other hardware specifications include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a metal uni-body, and a fingerprint scanner. The phone comes in either 2GB RAM/16GB memory or 3GB/32GB variants. These are priced at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 11,999 respectively, which is very competitive. Xiaomi is also throwing in a 2-month free subscription to Hungama.
