Inspire 2
TL;DR
  • Tile can now find Fitbit devices, starting with the Inspire 2.
  • You can use the fitness tracker to ring your phone, too.
  • The features are available through a software update arriving this week.

Tile’s item tracking now covers your fitness tracker that fell between the couch cushions. The company has formed a partnership that will help find lost Fitbit devices through the Tile app, beginning with the Inspire 2.

An update rolling out this week for Fitbit’s wearable will make its last known location visible through the app, including through Tile’s worldwide network if the gadget is beyond Bluetooth range. The tracker itself, meanwhile, can ring your phone if you’ve misplaced it.

Not surprisingly, Tile offers perks if you subscribe to its $30 per year Premium service — Smart Alerts will send a notification if you leave the Fitbit device behind when you start a workout.

The two companies didn’t guarantee wider support, but they did say there was the “potential” to bring Tile integration to other Fitbit devices. Don’t be surprised if you have an easier time finding your Sense or Versa in the future. Fitbit told Android Authority:

We’re excited about this initial integration with Inspire 2 and hope to see it continue to grow with additional product integrations down the line, but do not have more details to share at this time.

Tile’s Fitbit tie-in is arguably a shrewd move to remain relevant in a pandemic-struck world — you might not need to track down a lost bag, but you likely still care about the tracker you use for your socially distanced runs. This does make Fitbit gear more appealing, though, if just by providing some peace of mind you don’t always get with rival fitness devices.
