You thought your phone was gimmicky? Check out the Galaxy Surfboard

Samsung created a surfboard that can integrate a Galaxy S7, so surfers can keep up with their Twitter feeds while riding the swell out in the ocean.

Samsung has a long history of kooky contraptions, but this one has to be right up there. We’re supposed to believe that a connected surfboard with LEDs and a slide-out tray for the phone is exactly what surfers secretly want. Because who likes to zone out when surfing, am I right?

Fortunately, this is just a marketing stunt starring Brazilian surfing champion Gabriel Medina.

Gabriel can receive texts from his coach, get live info on sea conditions, and even a live feed of tweets with the #GOMEDINA hashtag. The Galaxy S7 (which is water resistant, but completely unequipped to deal with seawater) acts as the brains of the board.

We have to give Samsung points for creativity – we had to double check the date to make sure this isn’t an April Fool’s joke that we totally missed. But what do you think?
