Taylor Swift has an Android game, and it's a BIG deal
From the title of this article, one might assume that I’m being sarcastic or simply having a go at an artist so popular that her dental floss would probably sell for a few grand via a hard fought auction on eBay. But I can assure you I’m not. What I am about to say can be perceived in many ways, but I for one am very serious when I announce this: Taylor Swift has a new music video that just hit the web. That’s a big deal folks. That music video also arrived with a Taylor Swift interactive Android game, which automatically makes the game a big deal. How big of a deal you might add? You have absolutely no idea.
Taylor Swift having a new video (and game) in this day and age is in fact such a huge deal that this story popped up in my breaking news feed on my phone. I am not even joking. After seeing it and having a brief “huh??” moment, I realized that the worlds biggest news outlets were ALL literally letting the news go on this. I’m talking your CNN’s and BBC’s folks….top tier journalists and popular bloggers…Twitter, Facebook, Google+…you name it and it was there.
So let’s talk about the game. Amex UNSTAGED: Taylor Swift is an interactive video experience where you move around a house (from her new video “Blank Space”) that contains lots of objects and characters that you can interact with (including Swift herself, and the guy from her video that’s forced to dodge flower vases… Neo style). But this is no cheaply done “find the hidden object” type of game. The app is a whopping 456MB, and reportedly contains an “immersive journey with intertwined storylines, multiple rooms and dozens of hidden interactive features waiting to be unlocked and explored”. If this is some kind of Taylor Swift meets The Longest Journey/Syberia cooab, then COUNT…ME…IN.
The application itself was made possible by way of a joint effort from RadicalMedia and Taylor Swift as a part of the American Express Unstaged Series. What’s interesting is that Hex camera’s were used during the shooting of the video, allowing parts of the app and the video to come to life at the same time. The application also contains Easter Eggs from the video (if you haven’t watched the video by now, then “We are never ever getting back together”…which you should know is the name of another Taylor Swift song), collectible items, and a lot more to explore.
Regardless of how you may or may not feel about Taylor Swift, the world has spoken and informed me via pretty much every media outlet on the planet that this is a pretty big deal. Be sure to hit up the Google Play source link below if you’re curious about the app, and let me hear your opinions of it in the comments below.
