T-Mobile brings back its iconic referral discount, but there's a catch

T-Mobile is rolling out a new referral perk that lets existing subscribers give friends and family a 10% discount on all voice lines for the life of their new account. The carrier has frequently revamped its ecosystem lately, whether rolling out new T-Mobile perks to keep users engaged or testing value plays like its Super Essentials Saver Walmart plan, and this latest initiative takes direct inspiration from its long-running, coveted employee “Insider Codes,” though it arrives with half the usual discount.

According to a report from The Mobile Report, the discount is now live in the T-Life app under the “Benefits” tab.

While traditional Insider Codes shaved 20% off voice lines and required an employee connection (which could naturally be hard to land), this new promo cuts that rate in half to 10% while opening it up to the general customer base. Once applied, the account-level discount remains active for all existing and future voice lines added to that account.

Crucially, the discount stacks alongside standard promotional offers, including phone trade-in deals, Keep & Switch incentives, and device credits.

To take advantage of the discount, new customers must port in an eligible number from a competing carrier, such as AT&T or Verizon, or an MVNO operating exclusively on their networks (such as Visible). The switch must be completed within 14 days of checkout.

On the referrer’s side, each voice line on an existing postpaid account has its own unique referral link in the T-Life app to share with one person, so multi-line accounts will have several codes to distribute. There doesn’t appear to be any tangible benefit to the referrer, though.

Given recent controversy around carrier bill adjustments and T-Mobile telco fee price hikes, some prospective switchers might naturally wonder whether a “for life” promise will hold up. Historically, however, T-Mobile has left grandfathered Insider discounts untouched even across multi-year plan migrations. If you want to jump on the offer, don’t wait too long: the current promo is slated to run through November 17, 2026. There’s a chance that this could be renewed later, but don’t count on it if you’re planning a switch.
