- The Sony Xperia 1 VII is now receiving the stable Android 17 update.
- The new software weighs 1.1GB and is apparently rolling out to European models first.
- This update brings a desktop mode and more visual customization options, but it doesn’t include the Camera Assistant feature.
Sony pushed out the stable Android 17 update to the Xperia 1 VIII last month, bringing a desktop mode, a more customizable Quick Settings menu, and several more additions. Fortunately, there’s good news if you have last year’s Xperia flagship.
Reddit users have reported (h/t: GSMArena) that the Xperia 1 VII is now getting the stable Android 17 update. This update has version number 71.2.A.2.35 and weighs 1.1GB. It’s apparently rolling out to European models.
Sony’s previously published changelog reveals that you can expect a desktop mode, an updated Wallpaper and Style feature (including the ability to customize the shape of your icons), resizeable Quick Settings tiles, and improved screen recording functionality. The Xperia 1 VII misses out on the new flagship’s AI Camera Assistant, though, as well as AirDrop support via Quick Share.
This update also comes after Sony announced that it would break its update pledge for the Xperia 10 VI. The company said it wouldn’t bring Android 17 to the device, owing to “technical limitations” related to storage. This decision comes despite Sony promising three major OS upgrades for the phone, which would’ve taken it to Android 17.
