Sony Xperia 1 preorders open June 28 with free XM3 headphones offer (Updated)
Update, June 26, 2019 (8:00AM EDT): Sony today provide more details about the launch of its flagship Xperia 1 phone. Pre-orders for the premium device will open June 28 and run through the July 12 retail launch. The phone sells for $949 and will be available online from Amazon, Beach Camera, Best Buy, B&H Photo, and Focus Camera.
Sony is enticing prospective buyers with an offer of free headphones. These aren’t just any headphones, but Sony’s top-of-the-line WH1000XM3 wireless noise-canceling headphones. The XM3 has an MSRP of $350. In order to score the free Bluetooth headset, people will need to pre-order the Xperia 1 during the two-week pre-order window from one of the aforementioned online retailers.
Original article, May 16, 2019 (12:55PM EDT): Sony announced today that its upcoming Xperia 1 flagship smartphone will launch July 12 in the U.S. The phone will be available through Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, Focus Camera, and other retailers.
Be prepared to open your wallets for the Xperia 1 — the phone will cost $949.99 when it launches. Even though similarly-powered flagships cost just as much in the U.S., Sony’s poor performance in the smartphone space is enough for some to perform a double-take.
Announced during MWC 2019, the Xperia 1 features a 6.5-inch OLED display with 4K resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio. The aspect ratio makes the phone taller than most, though it makes the display great for movie-watching.
Elsewhere, the Xperia 1 features three rear 12MP cameras with varying focal lengths, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, a 3,330mAh battery, and Android 9 Pie.
