Sharp's smartphone hits TENAA with minimal bezels and dual cameras

Known for making smartphones with minimal bezels, Sharp looks to have another such smartphone cooking in the oven, though we don't know when it will be available.

TL;DR
  • Unnamed Sharp smartphone listed on China’s TENAA
  • The device looks to be similar to the Aquos S2 in terms of looks and specifications
  • The TENAA listing does not say when the device will be announced or available

2017 has been a banner year for smartphones with minimal bezels, and that momentum doesn’t appear to let up anytime soon, at least for Sharp. As Playfuldroid noticed, one of the company’s smartphones recently hit TENAA, and there they are: the minimal bezels we’ve come to almost expect at this point.

That near bezel-less front is what allows the FS8015 to pack a 5.99-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. This means that the display’s Full HD resolution is a bit longer than usual, sitting at 2160 x 1080, though from the looks of it, the FS8015 will not be that much larger than the Aquos S2.

Elsewhere, Sharp’s unnamed smartphone features an octa-core 2.2 GHz processor, which could either be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 660. Regardless of the processor choice, the phone comes with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and either 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage. We’re betting there’s a microSD card slot for extra storage, but no confirmation yet.

Do we need to define "bezel-less"?

Around back, the FS8015 supposedly features 12 MP and 13 MP cameras, though the listing does not say how they will be used. In other words, we don’t know if that second camera is used for monochrome, wide-angle, or portrait images. A fingerprint sensor is also found around back, while a 16 MP camera sits around front.

Sadly, the FS8015 runs Android Nougat and not Oreo. Come on, Sharp. By the time this phone is available, it will be 2018. I don’t see much of an excuse here.

Finally, the phone’s 3,100 mAh battery should be sizable enough to give it all-day battery life.

Overall, the FS8015 certainly looks and sounds a bit familiar to the Aquos S2, which was announced back in August. Alas, we do not know when Sharp plans to release the phone, though CES 2018 would be a good place to announce it. Alternatively, MWC 2018 takes place around the end of February, so that’s also a possibility.

Regardless, we’ll keep you updated if we learn anything else.
