Samsung has good and bad news about One UI 9's disappearing status bar icons
Oct 19, 2026 — 11:27 AM ET

- Some Galaxy users are reporting strange status bar behavior after updating to One UI 9, with QuickStar controls affecting the wrong icons.
- Samsung has acknowledged the bug and confirmed that a fix is planned, but changes to the underlying platform software mean there’s no timeline yet.
- A separate issue causing status bar icons to disappear has a simpler explanation, with Samsung recommending a shorter date format.
Samsung’s stable One UI 9 rollout is gathering pace, bringing new features and improvements to more Galaxy devices. But as more users install the update, a few bugs are beginning to surface. One particularly strange issue is causing status bar icons to behave unpredictably, although the good news is that Samsung has already acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix.
A Galaxy user recently reported on Samsung’s South Korean community forum that system icons were responding to the wrong controls in Good Lock’s QuickStar module, which lets users customize what appears in the status bar.
Have you encountered any bugs or issues since upgrading to One UI 9?
According to the user, enabling Do Not Disturb unexpectedly brought back a missing Wi-Fi icon, while disabling the network indicator caused the Wi-Fi icon to disappear instead. An accompanying video shows the user toggling various system icon settings, but the status bar doesn’t respond as expected.
Samsung’s Good Lock support team has since responded, confirming that developers have identified an issue affecting how system icons behave when users toggle them on or off in certain situations.
The team says improvements are planned, but there’s a catch. Fixing the problem requires changes to the underlying platform software and further review, meaning Samsung cannot provide a timeline for when the fix will arrive.
Interestingly, this isn’t the only status bar complaint involving QuickStar on One UI 9. Another user reported missing Wi-Fi, alarm, and other indicators after updating.
However, Samsung explained that this second issue comes down to limited status bar space rather than a software bug. Certain date formats take up too much room, leaving insufficient space for other icons. Switching to a shorter date format should restore them.
For now, affected users may want to check their QuickStar settings before assuming their connectivity is the issue. While the date-format issue has a straightforward workaround, those experiencing icon toggles that don’t respond will have to wait for Samsung’s promised improvements.
