Update (06/27): Samsung has officially confirmed the revival of its UI customization app, Good Lock. The rebooted app, dubbed Good Lock 2018, is now available to download from the Galaxy Apps store for selected devices in Korea, the U.S., U.K., Singapore, Australia, and Canada.

Samsung says it decided to bring Good Lock back based on consumer demand for “freedom to personalize their Galaxy device’s appearance and interface experience.” The app is currently only compatible with Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 8, and Galaxy FE phones running Android 8.0 Oreo or above.

For a full rundown of all the features Good Lock 2018 has to offer, be sure to read our extensive app breakdown here.

Original story (06/15): A couple of years ago, Samsung launched an app for many of its Galaxy smartphones called Good Lock. When installed, it served as the lock screen for those phones, along with adding a number of other user interface customization features. However, Samsung retired the app after the release of Android 7.0 Nougat. Now the company has decided to revive the Good Lock app, with the launch of a new version in its home country of South Korea.

The new version was first reported by Chinese leaker Ice Universe on his Twitter page. The screenshots he posted show that the rebooted Good Lock 2018 app still has a lot of ways for Galaxy owners to customize their UI.

And here are some screenshots that we were able to capture from one of our devices:

While it is only available officially in South Korea, it’s possible Samsung could expand the launch of the new Good Lock 2018 app to more parts of the world for other Galaxy phone owners. In the meantime, you can download the APK of the app to try it out ahead of time.

Fair warning, we had mixed results getting it to work. On some devices, the app only shows a blank screen. According to Samsung, it should work on any Samsung device running Android 8.0+.

If you get it to work on your phone what are your impressions of the Good Lock 2018 app?
