While smartphones tend to get the lion’s share of attention when it comes to firmware updates, it’s important to remember that many customers have, or will purchase, tablets. To this end, when news of a major OS update hits for the more “at home” type of devices, it’s always a pleasant finding. Today is such a day, with news of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 (LTE) being updated to Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.

Currently, the OS upgrade is rolling out to customers in Germany and brings with it not only a new visual overhaul – like that on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 – but also a number of additional features as well as Google’s April security patch.

Several days ago, Google Plus user Zain Ajam took the time to list the changes as follows in a post:

no themes support :(
– new screen capture functionality
– new notifications panel (expandable by second gesture down)
– multi user
– advanced features section
– smart manager in settings
– doze capability
– Google now on tap
– managed app permissions
– the ability to add adoptable storage through a simple workaround

He also provided a YouTube video offering a look see at the latest OS refresh:

According to SamMobile, the update has yet to hit the big tablet’s smaller sibling, the Tab S2 8.0, and a quick check of the site’s Firmware section indicates it’s not even hit the Tab S2 9.7 in other regions.

Hopefully Samsung will get all of the units and variants updated shortly, but some time and patience may be necessary. That Germany has received it first may not be so surprising, however.
