TL;DR
  • Another report from Korea corroborates rumors of an early Samsung Galaxy S30 launch.
  • The phone series will reportedly debut in January 2021, with sales beginning later that month.
  • This would be around a month earlier than the Galaxy S20’s debut.

The Samsung Galaxy S30 series will debut a full month earlier than initially expected according to another report from South Korea.

Per Maeil Business (h/t: Sleepy Kuma), the Galaxy S30 will be available at the end of January following an early Unpacked event. Some regions may only see the device in early February, but that could still likely be ahead of the Galaxy S20’s February 11 launch date and well ahead of the March availability date.

This is the latest report to substantiate early claims of a rushed launch for Samsung’s refreshed flagship line. Samsung traditionally steals the launch limelight from companies unveiling wares at MWC. The Barcelona-based showcase is however delayed until late June 2021, but it’s unlikely that the show’s tweaked date affected Samsung’s decision. The real reason is seemingly inspired by business opportunities.

Maeil Business‘s source claims that Samsung’s revised launch is a response to HUAWEI’s ongoing misfortune. The firm is reportedly leaping to fill the void left by the ailing Chinese smartphone maker in the wake of the US trade dispute. Samsung regained the title of the globe’s biggest smartphone maker from HUAWEI in Q3 2020, and an early flagship launch may be key to continuing that momentum.

It’s possible that Samsung is also intent on improving its flagship sales numbers. It was reported in May that the Galaxy S20 line performed well below expectations, especially when compared to the Galaxy S10 series.

Samsung has yet to confirm the launch date of its forthcoming flagships, but it’s looking more and more likely that we’ll see them a little earlier than expected.
