TL;DR
  • A website has delivered a ton of apparent Galaxy S22 series specs.
  • One new piece of info is that the S22 and S22 Plus will receive a 10MP 3X telephoto camera.
  • This would be a major upgrade in theory over the camera on previous standard and Plus phones.

Samsung will unveil its Galaxy S22 series on February 9, with the firm expected to launch the base Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra on the day. We’ve already seen a ton of renders and specs leak, and now the ever-reliable WinFuture has posted a blowout of specs.

All three phones are said to be equipped with either a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 chipset, One UI 4.1 atop Android 12, Gorilla Glass Victus, IP68 ratings, and wireless charging capabilities.

The S22 Ultra is clearly the most impressive of the lot, as it’s set to offer a 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED screen (3,080 x 1,440), 8GB to 12GB of RAM, 128/256/512GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery.

Samsung’s Ultra phone is also said to gain a 108MP f/1.8 main camera (85-degree field of view, OIS), a 12MP ultrawide camera (120-degree field of view, 1.4-micron pixel size), and a pair of 10MP telephoto cameras (3X and 10X respectively). A 40MP selfie camera can be found on the front of the phone.

What about S22 and S22 Plus?

Meanwhile, the S22 Plus is next on the totem pole. WinFuture reports that it offers a 6.6-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED screen, 8GB of RAM, 128GB to 256GB of storage, and a 4,500mAh battery. Samsung’s base S22 is at the bottom of the totem pole, apparently offering a 6.1-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED screen, 8GB of RAM, 128GB to 256GB of storage, and a 3,700mAh battery.

Most of these S22 series specs were already revealed by other sources, but the outlet also gives us more details regarding the S22 and S22 Plus cameras. The phones are said to share a camera system that consists of a 50MP main camera (23mm equivalent, one-micron pixel size, 1/1.56-inch sensor size), a 12MP ultrawide camera (120-degree field of view, 1.4-micron pixel size), and a 10MP 3X telephoto camera (f/2.4, 69mm equivalent, one-micron pixel size).

More photography coverage: How optical, digital, and hybrid zoom works

The 50MP camera seems similar to the Samsung GN5 or Sony IMX766 sensors. But the telephoto camera, in particular, is a major upgrade on paper over Samsung’s recent standard and Plus models. The S20, S20 Plus, S21, and S21 Plus were all fitted with 64MP “telephoto” cameras that actually offered hybrid zoom instead of telephoto zoom capabilities. Zoomed-in results were still pretty good on these phones, but we’re interested to see whether the S22 and S22 Plus do indeed deliver much better results with a proper telephoto camera.

Otherwise, a 10MP camera is on the front, being a fixture on Samsung’s standard and Plus phones for several years now.

The outlet’s Roland Quandt previously dished out pricing for the S22 series, claiming prices of €849 for the base S22, €1,049 for the base S22 Plus, and €1,249 for the cheapest S22 Ultra.
