TL;DR
  • Samsung could release a 512GB version of the Galaxy Note 9.
  • Current rumors conflict about where exactly it will be released, although Korea and China seem like safe bets.
  • The most internal storage available on the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9 is 256GB.

Samsung is said to be preparing to release a Galaxy Note 9 variant with 512GB in certain markets. Leaker Ice Universe suggested this on Twitter yesterday, stating it was headed to China and Korea only. SamsungMobile.News (as pointed out by Phone Arena) is slightly more optimistic, however, saying that it could come to other markets too (but it ruled out Europe).

Galaxy Note 9 will come with 512 GB ROM to selected markets (Korea, China and maybe more)

Samsung’s current flagships, the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9, come with up to 256GB of storage, albeit with the option to add more via a microSD card slot. Samsung began producing a 512GB chip for smartphones late last year, though, so it would not be a huge surprise to see the chip in the Note 9.

While it would be a first for Samsung, the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 would not be the first major Android device to come with 512GB of storage. That honor goes to the limited edition 2,095 euro (about $2,430) version of the Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS released earlier this year. The Galaxy Note series isn’t known for being cheap, but even a 512GB version of the Galaxy Note 9 would likely be more affordable than the Mate RS.

As well as 512GB storage, current speculation suggests the phone will come with 8GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery.

The device is currently expected to be unveiled on Aug. 9 at an event in New York, although nothing has been confirmed. To read all the rumors about the Galaxy Note 9, check out our rumor round-up post at the link.
