Samsung has been working on foldable phones for years now, and it looks like we’re finally going to get a finished product in the next few months. What should we expect from this device though? Well, Samsung mobile unit CEO DJ Koh has shed light on the form factor.

The executive told CNET that the upcoming device can be used as a tablet, before being folded up into a pocket-friendly smartphone. Koh said Samsung’s foldable phone has to be “really meaningful” to customers, adding that it won’t be a “gimmick product.”

The Samsung executive also said the foldable device would be a global release rather than a region-specific product. So chances seem good that you’ll be able to get your hands on it when it eventually launches.

“Possibly when we start selling the foldable phone, it may be a niche market, but definitely, it will expand,” Koh reportedly said. “I’m positive that we do need a foldable phone.”

When to expect it?

As for a possible release date, Koh previously said the phone could be unveiled as soon as November, at Samsung’s developer conference.
