  • A Korean outlet reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy S21 Ultra will get an S-Pen.
  • It adds that the Galaxy Note series will therefore be discontinued.
  • The outlet also claims that the Z Fold 3 will launch in June 2021.

We’ve already heard murmurings that Samsung is working to add the S-Pen to the Galaxy S21 Ultra and its Z Fold 3 foldable, with the fate of the Galaxy Note series hanging in the balance. Now, a new report out of Korea has only echoed these claims.

Korean business daily Aju News reports that Samsung intends to add the Galaxy Note’s S-Pen stylus to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Furthermore, the outlet claims that the Z Fold 3 will offer a slot for the S-Pen and that the foldable will launch in June 2021.

It’s claimed that the Galaxy Note series will therefore be discontinued due to the S-Pen arriving on the aforementioned products. It wouldn’t be a surprising turn of events if confirmed, but it would still mark the end of an era. Samsung’s Note series first launched in 2011, popularizing the large screen smartphone and being a fixture in the Korean brand’s portfolio since then.

The outlet also added a few more apparent Galaxy Z Fold 3 details, alleging that Samsung has developed second-generation ultra-thin glass (UTG) with its own cover glass solution to enable S-Pen support. This is a crucial feature for S-Pen support, as early foldables have plastic screens that can quickly accrue scratches and other forms of damage.

Aju News further claims that Samsung is planning to offer an in-display selfie camera on the new foldable, but that it could be ditched if screen and image quality isn’t up to par. In fact, the outlet says that a pop-up selfie camera was considered for the Z Fold 3 but rejected due to reliability concerns. This claim also comes a few days after another Korean outlet reported that an in-display selfie shooter could be coming to the foldable.

It seems like the evidence is only piling up for Samsung to potentially ditch the Note series in favor of foldables then. But which device would you prefer? Take our poll below!
